The documentations of the artistic intervention in digital and public space with the title “Bussi Riot Project” and the shortfilms „The gaze trough the vulva“ and „The great Masturbatress“ were shown. The title of the exhibition 18+ is an allusion to the key trait in the relationships between the Russians and the government — the permanent attempt to slip away from the firing line. Thus, after the 18+ stamp, many educational books on homosexuality can be officially sold in book stores without making the authors fear special attention or persecution. It is an elegant way to disobey that surprisingly developed after many years of oppression. It can be perceived as an abstract form of protest. This exhibition is dedicated to different opportunities of protest in postsowjet space.

The textual elements in the works of Nazım Ünal Yılmaz, Sascha Alexandra Zaitseva und Ulrike Johannsen appear as visual codes, exposing rather than explaining something but demanding utter attention. Speaking to the viewer directly they offer individual access to the narrative thread of the works.
Sometimes we do not necessarily want to hear the stories that are told to us.

Sascha Alexandra Zaitseva, Ulrike Johannsen – Size Matters / Vienna, Austria

Sascha Alexandra Zaitseva und Ulrike Johannsen, konfrontieren ihre Objekte das erste Mal innerhalb einer gemeinsamen Installation unter dem Titel „Sans Souci“.

Der gelbe Teppich im Offspace „Size Matters“ strukturiert das ehemalige Ladenlokal mit dem großen Schaufester zum gemeinsamen Raum und verwandelt diesen in einen Schaukasten. Auch außerhalb der Öffnungszeiten kann man einen Blick ins Innere werfen.

Die Skulpturen schauen, reden zurück und werden dabei selbst beobachtet: Johannsens Stilaugen, drei-äugig und die beiden henkeligen Tongefäße von Zaitseva, auf die sie die Toilettenkritzeleien der Wiener Queer-Bar Marea Alta übertragen hat.

Die gelben Patschen laden jeweils eine/n Betrachter/in ein die gelbe Fläche zu betreten.
